Soul Commander is a Fantasy/Sci-fi Rouge-Like Strategy RPG where you play as commander of the God of Death's military, collecting souls from the Sun Forces domain and taking over the map as you go! The more souls, the more you can upgrade your units for battle. The map randomly generates each game for a repayable conquest! 

Responsibilities

  • Manage Project Management using Trello, focusing on cross department communication. Our team consisted of 5 engineers, a narrative designer, a sound designer, an artist, and myself. My primary role was managing scope for art and design while still implementing the large-scope design goals achievable by the engineers. I posted daily updates in the team Discord detailing in process, next up, and overdue items and discussed changing deadlines and priority as the project developed.

  • The game was designed collaboratively, and I focused on compiling documentation according to decisions made in the team Discord channel as well as creating visual mock-ups to work through user experience barriers. We utilized Google Suite and Miro to create our main documentation, which I organized and added to throughout the first week of development.

  • As UI Designer I created the concepts and final art assets for the User Interface in Photoshop and Illustrator, including layouts for the engineers to implement and user journey maps for each scene. As the setting takes place on another planet, my design goal was to bring in more sci-fi elements while staying cohesive with our  main artist's work.

  • During the jam, I ran QA with family and friends to report back bugs, design issues, communication needs, and possible improvements post-game jam.
